Without further ado, I give you Free Fitness February.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s the idea? I\u2019m hoping to raise my fitness levels significantly without spending any money, that\u2019s what. There are umpteen articles written about this every year, all hup-hup-hup and inspirational, but honestly I think there\u2019s more than a little whistling in the dark going on there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennygolightly.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/trainers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1427 aligncenter lazyload\" title=\"trainers\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.pennygolightly.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/trainers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"111\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1427 aligncenter lazyload\" title=\"trainers\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pennygolightly.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/trainers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"111\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Seriously, in order to spend nothing you need to already own sports gear, a decent pair of trainers and ideally some waterproofs. The weather\u2019s vile most of the time in February and my lungs really don\u2019t need lots of cold air right now so I\u2019m going to be realistic about exercising outdoors in the freezing rain \u2013 if I can find something else to do instead then I\u2019ll be doing that.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, here\u2019s the vague plan for the next 4 weeks. I\u2019m going to start gently this week so I don\u2019t anger my lungs and aggravate old knee and shoulder injuries, then I\u2019m going to step it up and try to do something most weekdays.<\/p>\n<p>Ideally I\u2019m aiming for a happy medium between:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aerobic      exercise, both extended moderate and short intense bursts<\/li>\n<li>Flexibility      and body conditioning<\/li>\n<li>Strength      training, especially weight-bearing exercises<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That variation should stop me getting bored as well (famous last words)\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I went for a brisk walk the long way around the block. Managed about 25 minutes and felt fine during and afterwards. Sort of testing the water, if you will. This bodes well for stepping it up.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, I\u2019m not hoping to lose any weight. I\u2019d be really, really annoyed if I had to replace any clothes at the start of March.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em> Are you doing any fitness training?
