It isn&#8217;t too late to get some kind of kitchen garden started during August either, as long as you take action soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several different seeds you can sow this month, and a few more jobs to get on with after that. Speaking of salad, we have two nicely productive cucumber vines this year too, even though we lost a couple of plants to the bad weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our autumn raspberries, French beans and chard plants are growing strongly so we&#8217;re picking them regularly. Planting out in August<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sprouting broccoli seedlings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Winter cauliflower seedlings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Care of fruit in August<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cut back old canes of Summer-type (floricane) raspberries if fruiting is over<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tie in new canes of Summer-type (floricane) raspberries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plant out new strawberry plants for next year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer prune damsons, peaches, plums, nectarines etc if they\u2019ve finished fruiting (check pruning requirements of individual varieties)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. General jobs to keep on top of in August<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main things to do in August kitchen garden is to pick loads of fresh crops as they ripen.
