Time to dig up those fading courgette and cucumber plants and get them into the compost bin!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tomato plants still have a few green fruits on them, but my job for the weekend will be to pick any that look developed enough and bring them indoors to ripen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later this month I&#8217;ll start wrapping a few pots in sacking material to protect against frost, and putting fleece and cloches over a few plants. Hopefully we&#8217;ll get earlier crops in Spring 2025 with the extra protection extending the growing season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seeds to sow in October<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The list is relatively small this month, and you&#8217;re looking for crops to grow under protective cover now and\/or planning ahead for early next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of my favourite places to get seeds and small plants include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/3TPSqtF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Dobies<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 great seed catalogue from long-established company<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/41TzD3i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marshalls Garden<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 good variety of seedlings and plants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/3TYlO1O\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RHS<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 good for \u2018Garden Merit\u2019 tried and tested varieties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/3vtYb74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Suttons<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 lots of 99p seeds and handy advice for beginners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/3vqU8rU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thompson &amp; Morgan<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 all kinds of seeds, strawberry plants, fruit bushes etc<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/3XbjBBq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wilko<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 the bargain seeds are back, plus lots of multi-buy offers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:13px\"><em>This site may get paid a small amount of commission for purchases made after clicking some of the links in this post.
